Last Sunday, 22 November 2015, a picnic was organised in Olympic Park, Sydney, to showcase the latest of updates in relation to the soon-approaching Serbian Festival Sydney. The Serbian Orthodox Youth Association – SOYA intended to promote youth networking and to allow the public to meet the current team, chaired by Dimitrije Grasar, the organisational backbone for our festival to be held 6 and 7 February at Darling Harbour.
The informal event, despite the threat of rain, saw around fifty attendees, together with their Spiritual Advisor Fr Nemanja Mrdjenovic, enjoy a day in the park alongside a few games of volleyball, soccer, an ambitious attempt at frisbee and egg-and-spoon races. The festival team welcomed the guests in true Serbian style, preparing a pork spit rotisserie, salads and various cakes.
Though plenty of their spare time is put into the festival, the Festival organisers realise that events like this are they key reason for volunteering their time, and can only hope the future gatherings will be as successful.
